Chasing the Moon explores the exuberant and romantic sounds of gypsy jazz,
blending them with classic American swing and a hint of south of the border
Latin to create an engaging and lively performance style.
The music brings a fresh feeling to the way different styles are combined -
a mix of hot club with the blues, a touch of folk, flirting with Latin
rhythms, lashings of swing with modern elements too. The frontline consists
of Kathy Bluff on lead vocals and violin, Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute
and Peter Malone on guitar. The rhythm section is John Conley (Galapagos
Duck) on double bass and Tony Keep on drums.
Chasing the Moon has just released a CD entitled "Nuages." For the CD they
are joined by Garry Steel on accordion and keyboards. The arrangements are
fresh and original. Bluff's warm and soulful vocals lead us from intimate
ballads to upbeat swing. Burjan's sound ranges from gently floating flute to
sweet soprano and grunting tenor sax. Pete Malone's Django influenced guitar
gives the band its distinctive gypsy feel, driving the rhythm section and
swapping free floating lines with both violin and sax.
